What is Rapid Prototyping and how can it help me?

Rapid Prototyping is the process of creating a 3D model of your product in a material that allows you to cast, test, and review your product specifications. This process is also known as 3D printing or Free-Form Fabrication. Prior to Rapid Prototyping manufacturers typically were not able to physically review and change their product specifications based on actual testing. They would either have to create a single piece of the product for actual testing, which was extremely expensive, or they would have to assume that the product would work as intended. With Rapid Prototyping the manufacturer gets a copy of their product for a fraction of the cost that it would have been if investment cast tooling had been created. Since the pricing is relatively cheap for rapid prototyping compared to creating an actual tooling, the client can order multiple prototypes with different specifications to compare.

Rapid Prototyping works great for clients who want to create models for their clients to review such as architects or engineers. With a reduced design cycle time Rapid Prototyping allows for proper testing to be done prior to committing to full scale development and production. A Prototype can be created within a couple of days allowing you to control your turnover time as well.
